About Cynthia
Cynthia Timoti is a bilingual, fourth-generation Chinese-Indonesian who was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. She moved to Australia to study when she was seventeen, graduating with a Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne, and spent too many years working in finance—an experience she now gleefully exploits as the bane of her characters’ existence—but her true passion has always been the written word. She writes fun multicultural romcoms with delightfully chaotic characters—there’s usually a feisty heroine and a swoon-worthy hero trying to find their happy endings in her stories.

When she’s not writing, Cynthia can probably be found attempting to make a dent in her TBR pile (which seems to mysteriously grow at an alarmingly fast rate), hunting for the perfect cup of bubble tea, and adding to her collection of pretty notebooks that she almost certainly will never use. She lives in Melbourne, the best city in all of Australia (no, she’s not biased) with her non-reader husband and two fantasy-and-dystopian-reader sons, who are both now taller than her.

Cynthia is represented by Ann Rose at The Tobias Literary Agency.

Random Facts
1. Her favorite ice cream flavor is rum and raisin.
2. She has a ridiculously low threshold for spicy food and doesn’t understand why people enjoy it, which makes her an embarrassment to Indonesians everywhere (if you’re one, and you feel insulted while reading this, she’s very sorry).
3. She thinks lefties are cool. And then her youngest son turns out to be one. Proof that manifesting totally works.
4. She has rewatched Hart of Dixie an unhealthy number of times. Also 27 Dresses. And Bridgerton (all the seasons + Queen Charlotte).
5. She will watch anything with Pedro Pascal and/or Chris Evans in it, and also anything by Guy Ritchie.
6. She shares a birthday with an actress who plays a doctor on one of TV’s longest-running medical dramas, and thinks Scorpio is the best zodiac sign on the planet (and she won’t be entertaining any questions about this, thank you very much).
7. Her dream place to visit is Banff, Canada.
8. She doesn’t subscribe to the idea of smart watches because what do you mean you have to keep recharging them every few days? (and she’s prepared to die on that hill)
Oh, and another thing …

The idea for Cynthia’s debut novel, Salty, Spiced, and a Little Bit Nice, came from the desire to raise a bit more awareness about type 1 diabetes (T1D), a chronic auto-immune disease that her youngest son was diagnosed with in 2020.
T1D usually develops in children, teens, or young adults, but anyone can be diagnosed with it at any age. There are four early warning signs: excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, and feeling more tired than usual. If you or any of your loved ones are exhibiting these symptoms, please reach out to your health care professional. Knowing these signs could save someone’s life.
